The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Monday flagged off his gubernatorial campaign in Ogbomoso.
In attendance was the former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose who alongside Seyi Makinde and others visited the Soun of Ogbomoso, His Imperial Majesty Oba Dr Oladunni Oyewunmi,
Ajagungbade III.
According to Radio Nigeria, Makinde while addressing students of Ladoke Akintola University, (LAUTECH) promised to scrap school fees in secondary school in the state if elected.
Mr Makinde equally said his first budget if given the mandate would allocate ten percent to the education sector and subsequently increased it with a view to meeting the UNESCO standards.
The Governorship candidates who noted that the state generate over one billion naira from the three thousand charges on the students annually promised to remove the burden from parents if voted for.
Mr Makinde who reiterated that education played significant role in the development of a nation said his government would review the school fees of LAUTECH to assist parents.
“we will review in an open and transparent manner the issue of the school fees.And I believe that school fees can go down”.
