The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State over the recent fatal stampedes in Ibadan, Okija, and Abuja.
The stampedes occurred while victims were trying to receive palliatives distributed by private organizers. In a press release, Bishop Oke extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families and leaders.
Bishop Oke described the loss of almost 60 lives, mostly children, as devastating. He prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the affected families and leaders, wishing the injured a swift recovery.
The PFN commended health authorities and first responders for their bravery and care during the critical moment. The organization called for thorough investigations and implementation of policies to prevent similar calamities in the future.
The PFN emphasized the need for safety protocols at gatherings, especially those involving children. They urged leaders to examine the conditions leading to the stampedes and take meaningful steps to protect participants in future events.
Furthermore, the PFN stated that the stampedes highlight the serious hunger and economic collapse in Nigeria. They urged leaders to enact laws and implement policies making food more affordable for the common man.
The release concluded with prayers for God’s blessings on Oyo State, Anambra State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
