The representatives of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and accessors from Colleges of Education across the country have advised students of Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate especially those that were going for teaching practice to be passionate about their chosen profession.
This advice was given on Tuesday 19, December, 2023 which was the second day of the week long accreditation exercise which took off on Monday, 18 December, 2023 at the college premises.
While on inspection of facilities of the college, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics (NCCE), Alh. Garba Koko who represented the Executive Secretary, National Commission of Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Pauline Chijioke Okwalle, admonished the students to be serious with their studies and be proud of what they do as teachers, urging them to impact lives positively and ensure they graduate with pride.
He added that teaching was a very good profession and as such they should be proud to be teachers.
While still on inspection of the college’s facilities, the team of assessors led by Alh. Koko encouraged the staff members at the Technical Education Department to produce student teachers that are self reliant.
He explained that Technical Department is key and unique to the existence of any institution. He commended the efforts of the College Management in providing many of the equipment such as the block making facilities at the department which he said could be utilized in generating income for the college.
At the Health Center of the College, the team was overwhelmed with the available facilities. They advised the medical officials led by Chief Nursing Sister, Mrs. Folake Adeyemo not to limit their treatment to students alone but can go as far as commercializing the Health Center and requested that they propose upgrading to National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Provider, adding that the facility on ground can meet the requirement for NHIS Provider.
Addressing the Internal Quality Assurance boss, Engr. Kayode Oladeji, Alh. Koko pointed out that Internal Quality Assurance was a very vital unit which was responsible for overseeing level of quality in the college.
He stressed that quality was beyond quantity. He emphasized that it was one thing to have numbers and another thing to have quality. He therefore admonished the IQA to work hand in hand with the Works and Maintenance Department to ensure quality is assured in the College.
He highlighted that most of the things to be assessed were under the Works, he stated that the assessors would rely and base their assessment on information given them by the Department.
Other departments assessed included the Fine and Applied Arts Department which he said was equally capable of generating income for the college with their art works which could be displayed as exhibition; Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and Works and Maintenance Department among others.
