The Acting Provost of Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate, Mr. Michael Olukayode Falade has applauded the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for graciously releasing funds for the accreditation exercise of the college.
The Academic Don expressed appreciation to the Governor at the grand finale of the one week long accreditation exercise which took off on Monday, 18 December, 2023 at the College’s Conference Room.
The Administrator explained that the Governor was fully concerned about the quality of education in the state. He stressed that without the support of the Oyo State Governor and the Honourable Speaker, Rt Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, the exercise would not have seen light of the day.
Mr. Falade equally thanked the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Prof. Pauline Chijioke who was ably represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Alh. Garba Koko and every member of the team as well as assessors from across the country who have been around for the accreditation exercise.
Speaking at the occasion, the team leader of the NCCE assessors, Dr. Mrs. Iquo Okon Mkpa also expressed gratitude to the Governor of the state who was ably represented virtually by Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu for the support granted the College in ensuring improvement of the College.
Dr. Mkpa reiterated that the NCCE Executive Secretary, Prof. Pauline Kwalle extends her greetings. She emphasised that though, the executive secretary was not at the programme but was with them in spirit.
According to Mkpa, the accreditation exercise would not have been easy to conduct without her support.
She equally extended her thankfulness to all the heads of various departments and their supporting staff whose support made the programme hitch free and a huge success.
It was on this note she gave a brief on some of their findings in the past few days which included commendable constitution of Governing Council membership, effective and efficient management system, harmonious relationship between the council, management and staff of the college, well established health center with efficient medical and para-medical officials with adequate equipment among others.
However, there were debilities which needed to be worked on according to her, for effective and smooth running of the College, among these are lack of utility vehicles and shuttle buses for the students, unbefitting staff offices, lack of modern teaching facilities, poor road networks within the two campuses of the College. She therefore appealed that all these be looked into so as to have a befitting place for the students.
In response through a text, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Oyo State, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, thanked the NCCE team and promised saying “we shall improve on all your concerns before your next visit”.
