The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Ibarapa Central/ North Federal constituency, Dr Adebayo Adepoju, on Wednesday bagged an award of recognition from the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora.
Adepoju was honoured with the award for his meritorious service to the community and Ibarapa land in general, at an event organised to mark the 2023 Student Union Government (SUG) Week of OYSCATECH.
Adepoju while delivering his keynote address, titled: “The role of students in Nigerian Politics,” charged the students to get involved in politics as it is the only way to shape the nation through policy making.
He urged the students to learn from the successes and pitfalls of the past leaders, stressing the need for them not to get depressed with the state of the nation but to see it as an opportunity that calls for urgent solutions.
Adepoju also advised them to shun violence during the forthcoming elections, urging them to ensure they turn out in their large numbers to vote for their preferred candidate without tarnishing the image of the institution.
“OYSCATECH is our pride and heritage, the entire Ibarapa people and we are proud of all the members of staff and students of the citadel of learning.
“We shall continue to do all in our power to ensure the success of the institution, thank you for doing your best for this school in promoting our rich culture in Ibarapa land, let’s continue to live in harmony for the good of our nation, Nigeria,” he said.
He called on all well meaning Nigerians to join hands with the government to improve the quality of education in the country.
After bagging the award, Adepoju laid the foundation of a new basketball and volleyball court in the campus, to enhance sports in the institution.
In his remarks, the SUG president, Comrade Oyekunle Oladokun, appreciated Adepoju for honouring them by participating in the activities the SUG and for commencing the construction of the volleyball and basketball courts on campus.
