The Oyo State House of Assembly has promised to give necessary support in terms of Legislative framework to all efforts aimed at addressing and reducing incidences of building collapse in the state.
To this end, the state legislature has also pledged to work with the Nigerian Institute of Building, Oyo state chapter towards enacting the state building collapse bill.
The Speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin gave the assurance while hosting the leadership of the Nigerian Institute of Building.led by its Chairman, Builder Dr Ayobami Adepade in his office.
Hon Ogundoyin decried the rising cases of building collapse in the country and stressed that construction of buildings had become an all comers affairs.
In his remarks at the meeting, the Chairman Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Lands , Housing and Survey, Hon Adeola Bamidele said such a legal support and collaboration would help in putting an end to the use of non-proffesionals in building and construction activities.
Hon Adeola Bamidele assured that the proposal submitted by the Institute on the enactment of Oyo State Building Collapse Bill will be looked into.
Earlier while presenting the proposal, the Chairman Nigerian Institute of Building, Builder Dr Ayobami Akinpade said the proposal became imperative to enable the state come up with timely and proactive measures to stem the tide of building collapse.
Dr Akinpade noted that the proposal would help the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ministry of Lands, Housing and Physical Planning and other stakeholders in Oyo State in coming up with an acceptable legal framework to address the menace.
He also advised the Oyo State Government to organize an interactive forum for all stakeholders in the building industry on how to review building production and control processes.
