Barring last minute change, latest decampee into the PDP, Joseph Tegbe has officially been endorsed as the Oyo South senatorial candidate of the party in the forthcoming election.
The official endorsement was made by the leadership of the party in the state and the nine local government areas in the senatorial district.
The meeting was chaired by the Governor and leader of the party in the state, Seyi Makinde.
Fresh FM presenter, Isaac Brown announced the development on Sunday evening, during a programme on the station.
He said the endorsement was reached by all critical stakeholders of the party during a meeting which lasted several hours.
“The leadership of Oyo PDP in the 9 local government of Oyo South senatorial district has in a meeting officially endorsed Tegbe for the party’s ticket,” he was quoted saying.
The recent decamping of Tegbe, the 2019 gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress to the PDP has attracted both kudos and knocks from political stakeholders across the state.
With the endorsement of Tegbe for the ticket, a hope of return of the incumbent, Kola Balogun as well as an aspirant for the ticket in the PDP, Dr Nureni Adeniran might have suffered a setback.
Adeniran had said he decided to run for the Senatorial ticket after wide consultation with relevant party leaders, but it remains unclear if the same leaders are still with him on the mission.
As at the time of writing this report, both Balogun, who is the younger brother of the Olubadan of Ibadan, and Adeniran, the Oyo SUBEB boss could not be reached for reaction
