Lawmaker representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Hon. Wasiu Akinmoyede Olafisoye, has reaffirmed that his intention upon assuming office at the House of Representatives was to empower no fewer than 100 constituents in each ward across the two local governments under his constituency.
Hon. Olafisoye, popularly known as Lafi, made this known during another phase of his empowerment programme, where 300 beneficiaries received POS machines and a startup capital of ₦200,000 each to support their businesses.
The empowerment initiative is coming at a time when many Nigerians are experiencing economic pressure and seeking sustainable means of livelihood. By providing beneficiaries with capital and business tools; POS machines and standing umbrellas, the gesture is expected to drastically reduce financial vulnerability and promote self-reliance among residents of the Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency. Beyond immediate relief, the initiative will help foster a new class of small business owners contributing to grassroots economic growth.
The POS business model, which has become a viable income-generating venture in Nigeria, is projected to create employment, expand financial inclusion, and stimulate commercial activities in different communities. With 300 new operators emerging from this phase alone, the constituency is positioned to witness increased circulation of cash, easier access to financial services, and improved household income levels.
Speaking at the event, Lafi noted that beyond uplifting residents in different communities through empowerment opportunities, he has also facilitated federal government job placements for several constituents. These include employment opportunities at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), as well as ongoing recruitment processes into the Nigeria Customs Service, Immigration Service, and Civil Defence Corps, among others.
He reiterated his unwavering passion for the development of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, adding that while he continues to attract infrastructural projects to the area, he remains committed to empowering the people to improve their economic well-being and achieve financial independence through various interventions and initiatives.
The event was attended by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state level, stakeholders from Lagelu and Akinyele Local Governments, the Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman, youth leaders, Hon. Yemi Aderibigbe, party members, and the beneficiaries.
