Dr Adeniran Tella, the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, on Tuesday assumed duty in Ibadan with a pledge to conduct free, fair, credible, transparent and acceptable elections comes 2023.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tella was received by the commission’s Administrative Secretary, Alhaji Abiodun Amosun, management staff and all the electoral officers in the 33 local government areas of the state.
He charged all the commission staff members in the state to brace up for the task ahead for them to conduct a successful election.
The REC sought for the co-operation of every staff member of INEC in the state, emphasising that the job was a collective one, which he said, need the contributions of every one.
Tella, who was transferred to Oyo from Ekiti, said he and other staff members of the commission in Ekiti were able to record success in the last governorship election, because “they worked as a team, exhibited decency, dedication and transparency”.
He said that the same feat would be repeated in Oyo State, assuring them that the 2023 elections would be conducted in “a very good manner”.
Tella added that the commission had engaged in a lot of activities that would enhance the success of the forthcoming elections.
“For instance, we started from expansion of voters access to polling units; then, the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), followed by claims and objections.
“Our staff have been engaged in training and capacity building, in line with the international best practices. This will now allow them to even be more proactive on the exercise,” he said.
REC promised that the commission, under his watch, would relate with all relevant stakeholders to have a smooth running in the conduct of the 2023 elections in the state.
“It is an assurance that we are going to conduct elections that will be adjudged as free, fair, credible, acceptable and transparent with all the measures put in place,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the management and staff, the Administrative Secretary, pledged total loyalty and cooperation to the new REC.
Amosun said that all staff members of the commission in the state were hardworking and dedicated to their duties, assuring that the new REC would enjoy working with them.
