Oyo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has filed a suit against Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi and others over unpaid N42.3bn pensions and gratuities to its members.
The action came 4 days after the State government announced the release of N9.7bn for the payment of salaries, pensions and salary arrears of workers under the payroll of Local Govt in the state.
At a press conference addressed by the chairman of the chapter, Gbadegesin Akande, on Monday, the union accused the governor of being mischievous by going to the media to announce that money had been released for the payment of backlog of pensions owed pensioners when indeed the present government was owing the pensioners huge amount of money.
The union said that the share of the pensioners in the total amount released by the government was less than 1%.
The union had written uncountable number of letters, held several press conferences and protests to register the plight of the senior citizens in the state.
