Former Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Abdul-Rahman Raphael Afonja (PARA), has extended his congratulations to Governor Seyi Makinde and the entire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) family in Oyo State for the peaceful and successful conduct of the party’s State Congress held over the weekend at Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamsingba, Ibadan.
In a statement released on Monday, Afonja commended Governor Makinde for what he described as a “fatherly role” in steering the party towards unity and progress. According to him, the governor’s leadership and wealth of experience continue to foster a shared sense of purpose within the party.
“The governor has consistently used his leadership experience to promote unity in the party,” Afonja stated. “This unity has become a defining strength of the PDP in Oyo State and was once again evident in the way the congress was conducted.”
Afonja also praised the discipline, maturity, and commitment shown by party leaders, delegates, and members during the congress. He described the event as a reflection of the PDP’s status as a party of order, inclusiveness, and democratic values in the state.
Reaffirming his allegiance to Governor Makinde’s administration, Afonja pledged to continue working with the leadership and members of the PDP across all levels to ensure the party remains strong, united, and well-prepared for the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, the congress saw Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro retain his position as Chairman of the PDP in Oyo State. Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke was elected Deputy State Chairman, while other key positions were filled as follows: Oyelami Oyeyemi as State Secretary, Olawumi Elizabeth Toyin as Women Leader, and Bello Kazeem Olalekan as Youth Leader.
