The Muslim Community of Oyo state has, on Monday, distributed palliatives donated by the 3 Senators in the state to Muslims across the 33 local government areas
The palliatives were handed over to representatives of Muslim community from each of the LGAs at the Bodija Central Mosque, Ibadan, for onward distribution to Muslims in their respective councils.
The palliatives which included bags of rice, semovita, and others were donated by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, (Oyo North), Senator Sharafadeen Alli, (Oyo South) and Senator Yunus Akintunde, (Oyo Central).
While speaking, the Chairman of the Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, said the items would assist the beneficiaries to fast with ease.
He noted that a lot of people were already finding it difficult to feed before the commencement of the holy month due to the current economic situation in the country.
He said: “We are extending this privilege to indigent Muslims in society in this holy month to enable them to fast with ease and contentment.
“This is the month of giving; even if there is no economic hardship that is affecting everybody, Muslims are very charitable during this month because they are sure of multiple rewards.
“The palliative is shared equally to all the thirty-three local government areas irrespective of the population that a local government has, no discrimination whatsoever.”
Sanni appealed to those saddled with the responsibility of distributing the items to do so with the fear of Allah adding that they should not be selfish and must ensure that the items get to the targeted people.
“We understand that the federal government also gives palliative which was distributed yesterday, that is why we are appealing to the representatives that whoever benefited from that one should not be considered for this one so that it can at least go round because you can’t give to everybody.
“You will also remember that some individuals and philanthropists here and there are also doing their little bit. This is the month of giving even if we don’t have the problem of shortages or inflation that has hit deep into everybody’s pocket, normally, Muslims are very charitable during Ramadan.”
While noting that many Muslim political office holders had given palliatives and other supports to Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan, Sanni commended the state’s three senators for their support of the Muslim community in the state.
His words: “Let me be frank with you, a lot of them have done their bits it seems that these three senators are very close to the Muslim communities, they are very fantastic Muslims. It is very easy to convince them to do part of what they have done in the name of the Muslim community.
“This is just a scratch in the body of a lot of things that they have done in Ramadan. So, we have appealed to others but we know that they have done what they could but they just didn’t want to pass their palliative through the Muslim community.”
