The Oyo State legislator representing Ibadan North Constituency II, Hon. Babajide Adebayo has called on the legislative arm of the State to investigate alleged unlawful acquisition of lands belonging to individuals and families during the immediate past administration in the State.
Adebayo raised this motion during the legislative plenary on Thursday, in Ibadan, adding that citizens of the State have been clamouring either through media or petitions over alleged unlawful acquisition of their lands by some officials of past administration in the State.
According to him, most of these complaints accused the said government officials of claiming the acquisitions are for the purpose of farming and agricultural activities for the development of the State by the government.
He said, “It is saddening to note that many of these allegedly unlawfully acquired land for Government official use have been diverted for personal use by some past officials of Government.
“We have received many petitions on alleged unlawfully acquired lands in some parts of the State like, Omu village via Onidudu town along Ibadan-Oyo expressway, Adamaro village, Olorisa-Oko, Off Ijaye/Iseyin in Akinyele local government.
“We have the responsibility as lawmakers to perform our duties to the best of our ability in the interest of the citizenry especially the down trodden towards ensuring that the rights of our people are not been trampled upon.”
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin in his words expressed deep concern over taking possession of people’s properties or heritage without paying compensation under the pretense of government needs or development plan for the State.
“In order to be fair, I charged the house committees on Lands and Housing and Human Rights and Democratic Governance to do more investigation and present detailed report on this allegations.
“The business of governance should be done with human face a and due processes should be followed because there is no government without the people.”
