Academic and non academic staff unions working in the six Oyo State government owned tertiary institutions have issued a 14 day ultimatum to the government to pay their 15 months outstanding salaries.
The workers said they may be forced to embark on an indefinite strike action if the demand was not met in the next 14 days.
The decision was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of delegates from the affected six schools.
The statement was signed by the executives of the workers’ unions from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, The Ibarapa polytechnic, Eruwa, The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, and College of Education, Lanlate.
According to the communiqué, the ultimatum began on yesterday (Friday) after the meeting.
The workers also reject what they described as the fractional subvention from the government to the schools.
It reads in parts, “Government factional release of subvention is totally unacceptable, henceforth, salaries should be paid in full as fractional salary is illegal and totally rejected.
“An ultimatum of 14 days from October 20, 2017, is hereby issued to the state government to pay all the arrears of salaries, failing which all workers in the schools will withdraw their services in totality until all the arrears are paid and 100 per cent salary is restored. We will adopt no pay no work and mass protest to press home our demands at the expiration of this ultimatum.”
