The Oyo State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, has cautioned traders and artisans in the state against the conferment of unauthorised leadership titles within markets.
Hon. Adebisi gave the warning in Ibadan during the ongoing familiarization visit of the Babaloja General of Oyo State to Ibadan Zone II, held in the Ona-Ara area.
The Commissioner disclosed that the state government would soon inaugurate the Babaloja-in-Council, which he said would serve in an advisory capacity to the Babaloja General of the state.
Addressing traders, artisans, and market leaders at the event, the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Asiwaju Yekeen Abass, called on market stakeholders to unite to move the association forward.
Alhaji Abass stressed that the traders’ association remains non-partisan but works in accord with the government of the day. He noted that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has been “traders friendly” and deserves support from market leaders and members.
Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Ibrahim Tiamiyu appreciated the Babaloja General and his entourage for recognising the zone during the tour.
Meanwhile, some traders and artisans at the gathering appealed to the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry to fast-track the process for the selection of the Iyaloja General of Oyo State.
The familiarization visit of the Babaloja General continues with a tour of Ibadan main city, according to organisers.
