Oyo Govt Sets For 2nd Phase Of Polio Vaccination Exercise For Children

Oyo State government has announced the release of the 2023 Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE), screening/placement for primary six pupils transiting into Junior Secondary Schools and Schools of Science results.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, while meeting with Principals of Public Secondary Schools in Zone one, two and three at Lagelu Grammar School, Agugu, Ibadan, directed schools to collect their BECE and screening /placement results at the Local Inspector of Education (LIE) offices across the state.

He also hinted that students from the School of Science are expected to visit their respective science schools for their results.

The commissioner explained that the state government is aware of all the challenges that the principals are faced with, promising to set up a micro committee that will look for the lasting solutions to those challenges.

He commended teachers for their dedication and support to the governor Makinde led administration, saying they are partners in promoting qualitative education in the State.

He therefore admonished principals not to engage in the collection of illegal fees from the students, saying the government will not tolerate illegalities in the schools.

He equally urged them not to relent in working towards returning Oyo State to its rightful position in terms of academic excellence among other states in Nigeria.

He said: “I want to thank you (teachers) for keeping the flag of education flying in the State. In Nigeria today, education in the Oyo state is one of the best.

“I don’t know how to explain the symbiotic relationship between teachers in Oyo state and Governor Seyi Makinde. When the governor wants to mention the group that gave him the fullest support in the just concluded election, there is no other group but Teachers in Oyo state.

“I sincerely want to thank you for that and want you to sustain the relationship.

“If you look at the roadmap to sustainable development, there are four major pillars, which include Education, Health, Security, and Economy. We thank God as Education is being counted as one of the pillars.

“The governor has done so much for Education during the Omititun 1.0, and he will do better during Omititun 2.0.

“I want you to key into the vision and mission of the government. We shall be excited to work with you.
As teachers, you should know that your covenant is with God, not with the government, Ministry of Education and only God can reward you.
“I appreciate you all and promise you that any problem that you may identify, we will solve it together.

“We are resuming on Monday and want you to prepare for the resumption. No matter the challenges, they are not peculiar to your school alone, and we are addressing the challenges. Whatever you are doing, just make sure you do statistics.

“The ministry has released the results of BECE, screening/placement and school of Science.”

Earlier, in their separate goodwill message, the Permanent Secretaries, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Olusanjo Adeniyi and his counterpart at the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mr. Babajide Olasunmade, tasked the principals to redouble their efforts in steering the affairs of their Schools.

The duo appealed to them to make sure that learning activities in the school commence as the school resumes, adding that all the challenges faced will soon be resolved by the Government.

Speaking on behalf of the Principals, the Principal of Renascent Junior School, Mrs. Bowale Adigun, appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for prioritizing the welfare of workers in the state and prompt payment of teachers’ salaries.

She said the teachers in Oyo state will continue to support the government in taking education to greater height in the State.

The meeting had in attendance, the Permanent Secretaries/Inspector Generals Education, Tutor Generals, ANCOPS, Principals from Zone one,two and three.
