Oyo State Government said it is planning to construct over 500 kilometer rural roads across the 33 local governments and 35 Local Council Development Areas of the state.
The State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi disclosed this at the inauguration of the five point seven rural road constructed at Ikereku village, Akinyele Local Government, under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, RAAMP, of the state.
Governor Ajimobi, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, said the construction of the rural access roads would enhance the transportation of farm produce from farmlands to the city.
In a remark, Commissioner for Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Mr. Oyewunmi Oyewole, said the rural roads would also help to reduce the increasing harvest loses often recorded by farmers.
Earlier, Chairman, Akinyele East Local Council Development Area, Mr. Ayobami Akinpade noted that the opening of the road would boost economic activities and increase the revenue base of the area.
