Hon Resident Electoral Commissioner Barr Mutiu Agboke and his management team of the Independent National Electoral Commission paid a courtesy visit to Fresh F.M Radio Station.
Yinka Ayefele, owner of Music House walked the the team round the station at Challenge, Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Wednesday. The gospel singer was nominated as INEC ambassador on Tuesday ahead of 2019 elections.
He stated this a day earlier during this year Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week, held at Iwe Iroyin in Abeokuta.
In his keynote address with the theme, “The Media and 2019 General Elections, Barr Mutiu Agboke noted that, the media ought to focus more on issues and less on personalities in order to assist the electorate in making informed choices during elections, rural areas inclusive.
He mentioned some of the innovations put in place by the Commission which included, use of enhanced Smart Card Readers using PVCs as tools, the signing of MoU with Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to enhance smooth logistics arrangements and continuous engagement with all critical stakeholders including the media.
Th REC concluded that, the media have greater roles to play in order to foster transparency in the dissemination of important electoral information as we approach general elections.
