The Oyo State Government has approved the dualization of the 13.6-kilometre Moniya–Ojoo–Akinyele Road as part of new infrastructure projects aimed at boosting socio-economic development in the state.
The road with spurs to New Oyo Expressway, Ibadan was approved for the sum of N63,611,154,690.82. The road will be dual carriageway with six lanes and the duration of the project is 18 months.
The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the Oyo State Executive Council meeting presided over by Acting Governor, Barr Bayo Lawal.
According to him, other approved projects include the dualization of Ajia Junction–New Ife Road Interchange–Airforce Base Road, the construction of the 30-kilometre Okaka–Igboyaye–K.A.P Village Road, the 14-kilometre Apete–Awotan–Akufo Settlement Road, and the 3-kilometre Isaba–Ogundoyin Road. He said the projects are expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months.
The Commissioner also announced that Oyo State will host the return leg of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier between Nigeria’s Falconets and Rwanda on September 27.
Speaking in support of the briefing, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, said the government had approved the planting of about 35,000 tree seedlings around the Tech-U Junction–Badeku axis of the Ibadan Circular Road to enhance oxygen supply and environmental aesthetics.
Other officials present at the briefing included the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
