The Oyo state government through the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Ademola Aderinto, has advised residents to prepare for heavy rainfall expected later today, March 31, 2026.
According to the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency, the rainfall is part of the gradual onset of the rainy season, with Ibadan likely to experience intense showers in the coming days. However, no major flooding is anticipated in critical areas.
The Commissioner clarified that this is strictly a heavy rainfall advisory and not a flood warning, urging residents not to raise false alarms about flooding.
He explained that while some areas may experience heavy rainfall, residents should remain calm and take necessary safety precautions.
Members of the public, especially those whose workplaces are far from their homes, are advised to plan their movements early and reach their destinations before the rain begins to avoid being stranded.
Residents are also encouraged to ensure that windows and other openings are properly secured before leaving their homes or offices.
He added that relevant government agencies will continue to provide timely updates to keep residents informed and ensure public safety throughout the rainy season.
