The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Tamunominini Makinde, on Monday, April 7, 2025, flagged off a three-day free medical outreach organised by the Oyo State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Omituntun For Life Foundation and the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA).
The event, which was held at the Alafara Ojo Primary Health Centre in Ibadan North East Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, is expected to cater to over 1,000 residents across the state.
The medical outreach offered free consultations and treatments for various ailments, including diabetes, hypertension, malaria, and respiratory diseases.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Engr. Makinde emphasised the importance of good health to family and societal well-being.
She encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity and commended the visiting medical team for their dedication and sacrifice.
The First Lady also called on more health-based organisations and agencies to partner with the state government in providing accessible healthcare for all.
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, charged residents to take deliberate steps toward maintaining their health, stressing that prevention remains better than cure.
The Commissioner urged the residents to take advantage of the free medical outreach and to prioritise their health.
The President of ANPA, Dr. Cleeve A.K., who led the team of Nigerian doctors from the diaspora, noted that the outreach was part of their efforts to give back to their home country.
He advised people to avoid smoking and embrace healthy living.
Dr. Cleeve also pledged that ANPA would return to the state in the future to conduct free surgeries.
As a token of appreciation, Dr. Cleeve presented a gift to the First Lady.
The founder of Medplus Pharmaceuticals, Mrs. Joke Bakare, whose organisation donated all the drugs used for the mission, encouraged everyone to regularly monitor their blood pressure.
She emphasised the importance of preventive healthcare and urged the residents to take advantage of the free medical outreach.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Chairman of Ibadan North East, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo; Ibadan North Local Government; Hon. Seun Onifade and the Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Fausat Balogun.
Other notable attendees included medical professionals, government officials, and community leaders.
