The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Olasunkanmi Aremu Olaleye on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 commissioned projects and flagged off the 2020 planting season at the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.
Some of the projects commissioned include; X-ray/Laboratory building donated by the Alumni Association of the institution, fabricated classroom chairs, face masks and sanitizers.
In his address at the occasion, the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology commended the Management and the Alumni Association of the institution for their initiatives at advancing the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.
Barrister Olaleye hinted that great ideas often come from educational institutions.
He charged the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora to strengthen its marketing department toward linking the production unit of the institution to people in the society for the economic upliftment of the institution.
Speaking on the 2020 planting season in the college, the Hon. Commissioner admonished farmers not to relent in their agric business as he hinted that the next generation of millionaires would be farmers.
The Acting Rector of the institution in his address commended the leadership and the entire Alumni Association for their benevolence and impactful contribution to the growth and advancement of the institution, as he opined that more of these kinds of projects would be facilitated and sponsored in the nearest future by the Association.
According to him, “the present executives of the Alumni Association has demonstrated what is called ideal and responsible leadership with the building donation to OYSCATECH Igboora, as this project would reduce the burden of students going outside the institution for medical tests and x-rays, in addition to being a good source of revenue generation for the institution.
The Acting Rector described the institution as the only Polytechnic in the state with speciality in Agriculture and Technology.
He hinted that the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, started as monotechnic in August 2006 and the law establishing the institution was amended in 2014 with change in its nomenclature from Oyo State College of Agriculture, Igboora, to Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.
He noted that with the support of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the College has fully migrated from monotechnic to Polytechnic.
Mr. Adekunle explained that the institution would not relent in its vision of training youths for innovation, food sufficiency and self employment.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Alumni President, Comrade Anifowose Mojeed thanked the Hon. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology for honouring the institution’ s invitation for the commissioning of projects on behalf of the Government of the State.
Anifowose commended the present administration in the state, under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde for making education one of his cardinal objectives.
The Alumni President on behalf of the Association pledged their continued support to their Alma mater as he charged the college put the x-ray/laboratory building to effective use.
The face masks and sanitizers were thereafter distributed to participants at the occassion, including the Ibarapa Central Local Government, Ministry of Education,Science and Technology, Security operatives, while others would be presented to traditional rulers in Ibarapa and Igboora High School.
Some of Dignitaries at the occassion include: the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Bola Atere, the Director Higher Education, Mr. Akanji, the Principal officers of the College; Dr. Ariyo Okunlola, Deputy Rector, the Ag. Registrar, Mr. Paul Oyediran, the Bursar, Alhaji Sarafa Agbogun, Acting Librarian, Mr. Rasak Oyewo and Mr. Niyi Fehintola, the immediate past Registrar of OYSCATECH. Others are the Local Government Secretary, Mr. Olaonipekun Olayide, Super for works, Mr. Obe Taiwo, Chairman Committee of Deans, Dr. Wasiu Bello, Director of Global Consult, Dr. Taiwo Akinyemi and a host of others.
