The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved over N1.5 billion as requested by the State executive led by Governor Seyi Makinde for provision of infrastructures, construction and repair of classrooms across public primary and secondary schools in the State.
The approved N1.5 billion is to serve as counterpart fund to access the 2019 FGN-UBEC/OYO-SUBEB Intervention fund.
According to the Speaker, Rt. Adebo Ogundoyin FGN-UBEC grant and the counterpart fund approved for the Oyo State government is to repair and construction classrooms and other infrastructures create conducive environment to enhance teaching in primary and secondary schools.
“We are approving the fund, while federal government too will be contributing equal amount to achieve to commence massive facelift project on public schools across our dear State.
“Quality education especially from the primary and secondary is the foundation of success for children, will subsequently determine their success as adults and contribute meaningful to the development of the State,” he added.
The lawmaker representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Alarape Ashimiyu applauded Governor Seyi Makinde on his obvious selfless commitment to development of thee State and the good of the people.
He noted that it is should resounded to the people of the State that the UBEC fund is a grant which Oyo State need to benefit like other States of the federation.
He said, “Whatever will do here as lawmakers is in the interest of our people. We’re not rubberstamp Assembly but when the Governor is doing well, it is our responsibility as the representatives of the people to support his actions.
“The truth is the schools in Oyo State lack basic infrastructures from conducive classrooms, damaged furniture. It is a tradition that the State release their counterpart fund for the grant before accessing it.
“We have done this today and soon our people will be seeing the impact soon. Construction, rehabilitation and provision of necessary infrastructures for public schools will commence in shouted time.”
