Oyo State House of Assembly has called for the immediate setting up of governing board for the state’s College of Cooperatives and Entrepreneurship Studies, Ilora, in Afijio Local Government, to enable it commence full operation.
The call followed a motion on the need to implement the Oyo State College of Cooperative and Entrepreneurship Studies Law 2017, which upgraded the school to a Diploma awarding Institution, brought to the House by lawmaker representing Afijio State Constituency, Mr Seyi Adisa.
Presenting the motion, Mr Adisa explained that the 2017 law which empowered the institution to offer National Diploma, ND and Higher National Diploma, HND in entrepreneurship studies has over years lack implementation, thereby stopping the upgrade from taking off.
He expressed hope that the Cooperative and Entrepreneurship College, Ilora would not only scale up skill development of teeming youth but also open employment opportunities when operational.
Speaker of the House, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, who was passionate about the appeal, directed the committee on commerce and cooperatives to meet with the ministry with a view to determining the present status of the college.
Mr Ogundoyin also urged the Executive to appoint principal officers for the college and give them necessary logistics to get it running.
