All Progressives Congress, APC, members in the Oyo State House of Assembly have commended a governorship aspirant in the party, Engr.Raufu Aderemi Olaniyan.
The commendation came when he visited the Parliamentary caucus of the party to intimate them of his desire to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election in state.
According to a statement by Olaniyan Media Office, he was warmly received at the parliamentarian caucus chaired by Hon. Segun Ajanaku, who represents Ibadan. South West State Constituency II.
Some of the parliamentarians who spoke at the meeting were said to have described the former Permanent Secretary of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency as “very humble and a gentleman who God has endowed with humility.”
Revealing that he performed well while in the civil service, they said he would perform if given the opportunity to serve in higher capacity.
The lawmakers were quoted to have described. Olaniyan as somebody that has “a good name, the prerequisite experience and pedigree to govern a state like Oyo, having worked in the state civil service for over 26 years and retired as a permanent secretary, without an iota of infringement against the rules, codes and regulations of the state civil service commission, despite holding very sensitive positions, an achievement the APC caucus members found very commendable.”
A parliamentarian who also spoke at the meeting noted that, ” I don’t know Engr.Remi Olaniyan, but I have heard good things about him, there are people from Oke Ogun, who seems to have reputation, but they amount to nothing”
Speaking further, the lawmaker said “Engr. Olaniyan has had opportunity in the past to serve the people and he used it well, describing him as a very humble man who is a specialist in his chosen career.
The caucus members also gave kudos to Engr. Olaniyan for having former Oyo State house of assembly members in his entourage a testament to the cordial relationship that has existed over the years between him and the state assembly.
Earlier, Engr. Olaniyan had thanked the caucus members for the warm reception shown him and informed the honourable members that he came to intimate them of his desire to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election in the state.
He remarked that he considered the house members as very cardinal in the present democratic dispensation hence his decision to seek their support towards the actualisation of his gubernatorial ambition.
The APC guber hopeful informed that he is not seeking to be governor of Oyo state, because he is from Oke Ogun, but he is seeking to serve the state because he is qualified and suitable to hold the office. He remarked that he has always had cordial relationship with members of the Assembly and he hopes that he will at this time benefit from the fruits of the amiable relationship that has existed between him and the state house of assemble over the years.
He also noted that, “within the short period that he joined the party, he has done quite a number of things to uplift the APC not just in Oorelope local government, but the state in general.
The retired permanent secretary also informed the house members about some of his plans to move the state forward if elected into office.
