Chairman of Oyo State APC Local Congress Committee, Chief Hillary Amodu, has debunked report of his abscondment with a serving senator with an intention to tamper with the result of the party’s local congresses held on Saturday, September 4th 2021 across the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.
Chief Amodu, in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists, described the news report as untrue, unfounded and condemnable.
Amodu noted that the results in his custody were in possession of the Secretary of the Committee as well as parties that took part in the Congress and there is no way the results could be doctored or manipulated in favour of any individual or group.
He explained that he only left for Abuja to meet up with the deadline set for his committee by the APC National Secretariat regarding the submission of congress results and reports.
The statement reads in full: “My attention has just be drawn to a write up purportedly written and circulated to discredit the outcome of the local government Congress of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo state as successfully held last Saturday across the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.
“First and foremost, I would like to use this medium to condemn the action of the sponsors of the write up which has been found to contain spurious allegations, misleading information and complete falsehoods even as I still hold a strong belief that such material could not have emanated from members of the Congress Committee who I enjoyed good working relationship with throughout the period which our assignment lasted.
“It is important for me to state here categorically that I, as the Chairman of the Committee, was not in Oyo state to do the bidding of any individual gladiator or group and I do not know of any member of the Committee who showed interest in any of the members or chieftains of Oyo APC as far as the conduct of the Congress was concerned. I can say it unequivocally that we were in the state as unbiased umpires. Our mandate was to be fair to all parties involved and also ensure strict adherence to the Guidelines earlier released for the exercise by the CECPC.
“Therefore, the allegation that I absconded with a serving Senator from the state was not only untrue but also unfounded and condemnable. I left Ibadan on Sunday (a day after the Congress) with the duly signed results and this was to the knowledge of all members of my team who later joined me in Abuja where we were being expected to submit both the results and the Reports of the exercise.
“As a matter of fact, copies of the results in my custody were in possession of the Secretary of the Committee as well as parties that took part in the Congress and there is no way these could be doctored or manipulated in favour of any individual or group again. I only left for Abuja to meet up with the deadline set for my Committee by the National Secretariat of our Party regarding the submission of Congress Results and Reports.
“I want to assure all members of the APC in Oyo state that only the results of the Congress produced at the designated venues on Saturday will be submitted to the National Secretariat of our great Party for necessary authorisation while it is only the leadership of the CECPC that has the power to announce it to the public afterwards.
“Therefore, I urge members and supporters of the APC in Oyo state to disregard the wicked rumours being peddled around by those I suspected to be fifth columnists and enemies of the Party. All members of the Committee are now in Abuja to do what is expected of us and in due course, the outcome of the Local Government Congress will be made public by the appropriate authorities as this shall reflect the true outcome of the exercise as conducted last Saturday.”
