Following the postponement of the February 16 presidential and National Assembly elections, the Oyo state capital of the African Action Congress (AAC) says its members and supporters are ready to vote en masse for Omoyele Sowore and other candidates on the platform.
The elections were postponed in the early hours of Saturday, February 16, 2019, which many considered appalling and a deliberate attempt by the ruling party to weaken the opposition.
Teju Ajibowo, the Publicity Secretary of African Action Congress Oyo State Chapter, said the postponement may require the opposition to spend as twice as much to remain strong contenders in the elections.
“Another twist to the story is that it was the international community led by the United States (US) that prevailed on INEC when they got wind of the ruling party’s plans to use the excuse of INEC logistics challenge to postpone elections in 10 States that they considered the opposition’s strongholds which includes Oyo State.
“The alleged plan is to use State apparatus and thugs to rig the elections in those ten (10) states whenever they are held. Some termed it the Osun State Rigging Template. Whichever rumour is true, one theme stands out – the ruling party wanted to rig the elections”.
The Publicity Secretary stated that “interestingly for AAC/TIB, while many see the postponement as a big challenge, we see it as a great opportunity to continue our house to house campaign and making more people get to know our party and its candidates. This is because our followers and structures are organic in nature and we are readily available and willing to hit the streets again and again until we vote out the rulers that have held down our country for decades”.
“We can’t be prouder of our achievements for what we started some months ago has now become the third (3rd) most recognised and fastest growing political party/Movement in Nigeria. This is as a result of our collective determination and commitment to the cause to take back our country to progress, prosperity and peace”
According to him, AAC/TIB is the only party/Movement with a strong ideologically base and has become the converging platform for all Nigerians of conscience across the board.
He further stated thus “we are using this medium to call upon our members and well-meaning Nigerians not to relent but to double their efforts to continue to mobilise themselves and the people around them for AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore and all other AAC candidates for next week’s election”
The Publicity Secretary concluded saying “the time is up for the incompetent, visionless, corrupt and wicked leaders but we all have a duty to come out en masse on February 23rd and March 9th to vote for AAC and its candidates. Let us re-write the course of history for our generation and the next”
