Gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oyo state, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu has on Monday declared that candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engineer Seyi Makinde was not prepared for the March 2nd election.
He advised the PDP candidate to go back to the drawing board to prepare and equip himself better for the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Adelabu who made this declaration in a statement by spokesman of Friends of Bayo Adelabu (FOBA), Dr. Bayo Busari, declared that the performance of Makinde at a debate organised by Fresh FM on Sunday has shown that the PDP candidate was not ready for the election.
Busari who issued the statement on behalf of Adelabu said that the performance of Makinde has indicated that Makinde was not ready for the election.
Recall that Fresh FM on Sunday organised a gubernatorial debate for candidates of major political parties in the state.
But, Adelabu while commenting on Makinde’s performance maintained that Makinde should exit himself instead of contesting in the gubernatorial election cosidering his performance at the debate.
He said “The candidate of PDP in the March 2, 2019 gubernatorial election in Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde has been advised to take a honourable exit from the race.
“This advice was given against the backdrop of the lackluster performance of the PDP candidate at a debate organised by Fresh FM, a private radio station in Ibadan on Sunday. It was crystal that Engr. Makinde was not ready and prepared to govern an upwardly mobile state, like Oyo.
“From his dull and shallow presentation at today’s debate we have come to understand the reason why he stayed away from an earlier debate organised by BBC Yoruba penultimate week.
“It’s clear that Engr. Makinde is yet to realise the enormity of the task ahead or his preparedness is not beyond that of a local government chairman.
“It’s quite unbelievable that someone who came out to contest for the coveted seat of the Pacesetter State four years ago still finds it difficult to marshal his thoughts, even with the passage of time.
“His performance has given credence to the popular saying that you can’t give what you don’t have, and we make bold to say that Oyo State deserves a better candidate and a better deal than Engr. Makinde.
“His uncoordinated responses to specific questions and lack of clear thought pattern while the debate lasted is a thing to worry about.”
He added, “He will do better to step down and safe the reminant of his depleted rank of sympathisers the trauma of having to vote for a candidate that his second nature is failure at the polls.
“It’s now clear that the allusion to ‘atari ajanaku’ by former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala to refer to who is capable of taking over the mantle of leadership of the state from Senator Abiola Ajimobi was better directed in the direction of Engineer Makinde”.
