No fewer than three thousand athletes are set to run in the eleventh edition of the Power Oil/Splash FM Ibadan City Marathon race on Sunday, 14th April 2019.
In a press conference held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan today, Splash/Lagelu FM’s General Manager Operations, Mr Tunde Olawuwo revealed that the organization in conjunction with their technical partners at the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, South West zone are prepared and ready to host a hitch free event.
According to Mr Olawuwo, the event will have a record attendance of about three thousand athletes a sizeable increase to the number recorded in the past.
He further disclosed that security measures have been put in place to ensure orderliness.
The annual 42 kilometers race is the most consistent Marathon race in West Africa and is known for continuously advocating the values of good governance, transparency and accountability.
Present at the press conference was the Chief Executive officer of West Midlands Communications, Mrs Atinuke Adetunji, Zonal Coordinator Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr Femi Ajao, Splash/Lagelu FM, General Manager Administration, Mr Adeshina Alawode and representatives of Ello Waters and Womai City.
In addition to the 42 kilometer race, there will be Artisan race, group race and Run for a Cause, a special initiative aimed at raising funds for credible causes.
Three million Naira worth of cash prizes is set to be won at this year’s event, with the first five winners rewarded.
