In far away Rabat, capital state of Morocco, on Tuesday, 28 of September, 2021, a university from England and Wales in United Kingdom has identified the great contributions of our brother, The Honourable Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Prince Munta Ladi Abimbola, to the legal profession in Nigeria and world at large, and therefore honoured him with Doctorate Honoris Causa award.
Dr. Honourable Justice Prince Munta Ladi Abimbola is leaving an indelible footprints on the bench and legal profession in Nigeria. At an international legal conference in South Korea five years ago, his delivered paper on international law became a talk of the town and attracted calls and accolades from all over the world. In Nigeria, he has delivered numerous celebrated judgements and the one of recent still fresh in our memory is the popular judgement with appellation DIVORCE YOUR WIFE, FORFEIT YOUR PROPERTY.
Not only that, many of his judgements have been upheld at both appellate and Supreme Court. This, coupled with his incorruptible and uncompromising stands has earned him a lot of respect from many judges – serving and retired and practicing lawyers – juniors and Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
Dr. Honourable Justice Prince Munta Ladi Abimbola remains the only Chief Judge in Nigeria to have his tenure as a member of National Judicial Council renewed for the second term. He’s also the only Chief Judge from Oyo State who has been conferred as a Life Bencher while still serving.
Please join me in congratulating him. While wishing him more successes in his service to the nation and humanity, we must continue to pray for him for a successful landing, and Allah’s blessings, guidance and protection for him and his family.
