The ricochets emanating from diverse political guns across the length and breadth of the country, lays credence to the fact that we truly are clearly in deep political waters or better still, electioneering ‘Crunch time’. It is therefore not surprising to note that the media space has gradually morphed into a weapon for as many as are willing and able to pay the price for either selling their candidacy or outrightly publicising their idiocy. For what it’s worth, numerous examples of victors as well as the vanquished from these media exploits abound still.
One of such is the recent ungaurded outburst of a Senatorial aspirant on the platform of the APC; Mogaji Adegboyega Adegoke, the Mogaji Aare Onibon of Ibadan land earlier today on a popular radio programme as monitored by our group.
The Aare-Onibon Balogun, (otherwise translated as overall head of all gunners in the ancient city of Ibadan), chose to throw caution to the wind while responding to questions fielded by the studio crew as led by Mayor Isaac Brown, the anchor.
It will be recalled that the Aare-Onibon Balogun decided to fire his first unguided shot at the Olubadans Palace by giving a misconstrued account of his previous arrogant disposition at a particular meeting when faced with the reality that some personalities preferred handing over the Oyo South senatorial ticket of the APC to the younger brother of the King.
As though that was not enough, Mogaji Adegboyega Adegoke went ahead to describe the reigning Kings brother; Senator Kola Balogun in a grossly lewd manner, referring to him (in his own exact words) as an ‘Agbebo adie’, a traditional Yoruba terminology used to describe a worthless entity.
In his bid to downgrade every other fellow aspirant, Mogaji Adegboyega Adegoke decided to cross the partisan political line by directly launching a personality attack on Mogaji Joseph Tegbe, claiming the latter has identity issues even though he is fully aware that they both remain substantive Mogaji’s in the same Ibadan. This is yet another clear affront on the legality of the Olubadan stool to accurately authenticate and designate true sons of the soil to assume their respective family leadership positions as Mogaji.
It is however pertinent to note at this juncture that while the Senatorial aspirant in Mogaji Adegboyega Adegoke may appear to be making waves with his vituperation in the media space, one may need to take a step back to observe and where necessary, pontificate thus, ‘could this be a stage of derision in the eventual process leading to self destruct mode for the entrepreneurial Aare-Onibon Balogun?’
