The Labour Party, Oluyole Chapter, has condemned the alleged invasion of farmlands by armed men in Ogunmakin, Gambari Reserve, and surrounding communities within Oluyole Local Government Area (LGA) in Oyo State.
The party, under the leadership of Alhaji AbdulRahman Moronkeji, stands in solidarity with the affected communities, emphasizing that the safety and livelihood of the people are at stake.
The party made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, in Ibadan, the state capital.
“The safety and livelihood of our people are at stake, and we cannot afford to fold our arms and watch as our farmers are chased away from their farms by armed herdsmen.
“We demand immediate action from the local government and security agencies to address this threat and restore peace to our communities.” said Alhaji AbdulRahman Moronkeji, Chairman of the Labour Party Oluyole Chapter.
Farmers in the region are increasingly unable to access their farms due to fears of attacks by armed herdsmen, a trend that the Labour Party Oluyole Chapter says “must not go unnoticed.”
The party is calling on the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led local government, under Engr. Akeem Olatunji, and all relevant security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to address the threat to the security of the communities.
“The silence of the local government in the face of these reckless activities is unacceptable,” said Adedayo Abdulwahab Arowolo, PRO Labour Party Oluyole Chapter. “It is the right of every citizen in Oluyole LGA to expect effective representation, and representation must transcend political affiliations. We urge the local government to take immediate steps to secure the welfare of our farmers and all citizens within Oluyole LGA.”
The Labour Party Oluyole Chapter criticized the local government’s inaction, stating that it is unacceptable and that effective representation should transcend political affiliations.
The party urged the local government to implement relief measures for the affected farmers and provide necessary support to restore peace and security in the region.
“We urge the people of Oyo State, and especially those in Oluyole LGA, to remain calm and resolute in the face of these challenges.
“Labour Party is stronger than ever, and we remain committed to fighting for the protection of our people and their rights. The time to act is now.” said Arowolo.
