Hon. (Dr.) Joshua Olagunju Ojo, JP, FIMEA, FIBMS, FLPP.
Hon. (Dr.) Gunju Ojo hails from Ahoro- Dada in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo state.
He is a man with a very humble beginning, unassuming and a goal getter He attended Baptist Day School, Oko, Ogbomosho; Ayegun Baptist Day School also in Ogbomosho; Later proceeded to Baptist Secondary Modern School, Ogbomosho all in Oyo state. He also attended Babtist College, Iwo, Osun state; Institute of Marketing, Manchester in England; University of Ibadan, Oyo state and Faith Foundation Fuller College of Nigeria.
Hon. Ojo is a Fellow Institute of Management Executives and Administration of Nigeria (FIMEA); Fellow, Institute of Business and Management Sciences (FIBMS) and Fellow, Legislative Process and Procedure (FLPP) worldwide Conference of Nigeria.
Hon. Gunju Ojo has attended several seminars and workshops which include that on Political Stability and Rule of Law, London, United Kingdom; Training/ Workshop on Good Governance at the International Confernce Center in Abuja; Policy and Financial Management for Corporations, Companies and Parastatals in Oyo state, organized by Administrative Staff College of Nigeria, ASCON.
Over the years, Hon. Ojo has worked in both the Private and Public sector. He was a teacher in both primary and secondary schools in the 70s, from 1976 to 1981. He was a senior sales man with Nigerian Tobacco Company Limited, Ibadan; Sales Operation Manager with defunct African Breweries Limited Ibadan from 1982 to 1990.
From 1991, Hon. Gunju Ojo went into the farming profession. From 1991 to date, he runs an integrated farm on 150acres of farmland at Idi-Amu village, Oriile Local Government; Cocoa farm at Okomu village at Ovia south west Local Government Area in Edo state. He is the Deputy Chairman, All farmers Association of Nigeria, Oyo state Chapter, a position he holds since 2010 till date.
Along with his farming activities, Hon. Ojo is a refined Politician. He was elected councilor on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Oriire Local Government from1991 to 1993. He was member/deputy speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003. Deputy Governorship Aspirant of the Action Congress (AC) in Oyo state between 2006 and 2007; Alliance for Democracy (AD) candidate for the Federal House of Representatives, Ogbomosho North, South and Oriire Federal Constituency of Oyo state in 2003.
In 2008, he declared for PDP in Oyo state. He was a member, National Assembly Screening Committee for Niger state in 2010. National Delegate to the 2011 and 2012 PDP National Conventions in Abuja. He is a member of the PDP Presidential Campaign Committee, South West of Nigeria for Goodluck/Sambo campaign Organisation in 2010 to 2011.
Hon. Gunju Ojo has a lot of awards and accolades bestowed on him. He is also a Doctorate Fellow in Business Management from the Institute of Internal Auditors of Nigeria.
On 15th of May, 2018, Olagunju Ojo was elected the Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly unopposed. His emmergence followed the death of the late speaker, Rt Hon Micheal Adeyemo on Friday 27th of April, 2018. Before his victory, he was the Minority leader of the House. He was elected on the platform of Labour Party in 2015.
