The sleepy town of Ofiki in Oke-Ogun zone of Oyo State played host to dignitaries from across the state and beyond as Otunba Niyi Adekola was installed as the Otunba Mayegun of Ofikiland.
The installation ceremony, which took place at the palace of the Oloto of Ofiki Kingdom, Oba Sunday Adeoye Tella the third, was attended by prominent personalities, including former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, and renowned legal luminary, Ahmed Raji SAN, who was represented by former Iseyin Local Government chairman, Alh Saheed Alaran.
In his remarks, Oba Sunday Adeoye Tella III said the chieftaincy title was conferred on Otunba Niyi Adekola in recognition of his contributions to the development of Ofiki.
The royal father of the day, Oba Akinola Oyetade Akinrera, family members, and friends of Otunba Niyi Adekola described him as a bridge builder and pillar of support in whom the milk of human kindness flows freely.
The newly installed Otunba Mayegun of Ofikiland, Otunba Niyi Adekola, thanked the royal father and the entire royal family for the trust reposed in him, promising to do more for the community.
The event also featured a 100 million naira fundraising for the building of an ultra-modern palace for the Oloto of Ofiki land.
The Executive Chairman, ATISBO Local Government, Alh Bashir Alade, and the chairman of the palace fundraising committee, Mr. Aderoju Emmanuel, charged the people of Ofiki to continue working assiduously for the development of the town.
Guests were treated to local and continental dishes, with good music and cultural dance performances. The event also featured traditional poetry recitation.
Other dignitaries at the event included Col Emmanuel Adegbola, among others.
The installation ceremony commenced at the palace of the royal father, where family members and friends gathered to witness the chieftaincy conferment rites.
After the rites, the newly installed Otunba Mayegun of Ofikiland, family members, and well-wishers moved to the beautifully decorated reception venue at Ofiki Grammar School Sports Playing Ground for the formal launching and entertainment of guests.
