Honourable Akeem Adeyemi, son of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has empowered his constituents with funds to start a vocation.
Adeyemi, who represents Oyo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, said the gesture became necessary as opportunities in the civil service are becoming elusive.
Popularly called Skimeh, he explained that: “by doing this, we are gradually eradicating poverty among our people and transforming them from job seekers to employers of labour. We have device this easy means to assist the people of our constituency.”
Organised under his Ogo-Oyo Vocational Training and Empowerment Programme, 50 beneficiaries were drawn from all the wards in the four local government areas and associations within the the federal constituency.
The beneficiaries were trained in different vocations like liquid soap, disinfectant, air freshener and hair cream making.
And to start on their own and become employers of labour, Adeyemi, who was a council chairman, doled out financial assistance to the beneficiaries at an event well attended at the historic Atiba Town Hall.
The youthful lawmaker, who said he would not stop at anything to get his constituents empowered, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunities.
“As you know, what we have done today is one of our numerous initiatives. There are programmes for other categories of people. We will make sure we put smile on the faces of majority of our people,” he assured.
