The Babalaje of Ogbomosoland and Giwa Adinni of Oyo state, Engineer Muftau Open Salawu FNSE has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to spend Nigeria’s scarce resources on Military Action in Niger Republic.
The Waziri Jari Nupe said this in a statement personally signed by him and made available to newsmen, on Sunday, while reacting to the coup in Niger Republic.
Open Salawu added that the coup in Niger Republic is a trap for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urging him to allow the people of Niger Republic to fix their problems.
He added that any attempt to use force by President Tinubu and other ECOWAS countries will put burdens on states sharing borders with Niger Republic.
The statement read in full: “The Coup in Niger Republic is a trap for Tinubu. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be weary of the international plot of luring Nigeria into another Resources drain project. In the Nineties Nigeria spent Billions of dollars in pursuing the war in Liberal, Sierra Leone and other West African countries without benefiting from post war arrangement.
“Right now we have both security and economic challenges, which make it very unreasonable to use our scarce resources in pursuing another avoidable mission in Niger.
“Niger Republic depends on Nigeria for so many things and the fall out of the crisis will definitely put burdens on states shearing borders spanning over 1000km with them.
“The removal of fuel subsidy which was overdue, the loss in exchange rates of naira to other foreign currency, the Security and food scarcity is enough problems for a new government to deal with rather than falling to the trap of deception and distraction.
“War is now a business for the practitioners but Nigeria has been what we’re and our current situation, a war will be too expensive for us and waste of resources.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should please allow Niger people to fix their problems, France is the major Beneficiary of Peace in Niger so, where are they now?”
