A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state and Babalaje of Ogbomoso, Engineer Muftau Open Salawu, has kicked off the 2026 political year on a generous note, distributing 50 bags of rice to party members across the zone.
The New year gesture, which took place during a PDP gathering in Ogbomoso, saw beneficiaries drawn from the five local government areas that make up the Ogbomoso zone. The distribution, according to him, was aimed at assisting members of the party to celebrate the festive period while strengthening internal unity and morale within the party.
Engr. Open Salawu, who has made the gesture a festive tradition, said the initiative reflects his commitment to the PDP and the people of Ogbomosoland. This year’s donation marks the fourth consecutive time he has extended such support to faithful PDP members during the festive season.
While speaking, the Giwa Adinni of Oyo state urged them to remain resilient and steadfast despite the prevailing political and economic challenges.
“We must remain committed to the ideals of the PDP and continue to stand together as one family, no matter the distractions or attempts to weaken us.”
He further hinted at internal and external forces working against the party, noting that “some people simply do not want the PDP to breathe.”
However, he expressed confidence that the party would overcome all obstacles through unity, discipline and sustained grassroots engagement.
Party leaders and members who spoke at the event commended Engr. Open Salawu for his consistency and generosity, describing him as a dependable pillar of the PDP in Ogbomoso zone. They noted that beyond the material support, his actions serve as a morale booster at a time when many party faithful are grappling with economic hardship.
