A Group in Oyo State, the Concerned Youth Movement (CYM) has castigated the Oyo State House of Assembly over a recent approval to the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde to obtain a N300 billion loan describing the action of the Lawmakers as disrespectful to their constituents.

The group also alleged the executive arm of government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde and state legislature of mortgaging the future of unborn citizens of the state, thus, calling on well meaning leaders and the citizens of the state irrespective of their zone, religion or political party affiliations to rise against injustice against present and future citizens of the state.

The CYM in a release issued on Friday and signed by Pastor Tayo Adigun and Alhaji Olaide Kobomoje, Chairman and Secretary respectively, said what makes the action of the lawmakers susceptible and selfish is that though they are on recess, yet they break their recess, and had an emergency sitting to approve N300 billion loan for the governor.

It could be recalled that Oyo State Assembly member representing Saki West State Constituency,. Hon. Shittu Ibrahim, revealed on Wednesday how the state legislature approved a new N300 billion loan for Governor Seyi Makinde led administration during an emergency sitting.

The lawmaker, in a post on his Facebook page criticized the hasty arrangement through which the loan was approved, stressing that the House is currently on recess and not all members were present at the sitting.

He said he was not among the lawmakers that approved the loan of N300 billion for the Makinde Administration.

The CYM said in the release that, the question that needs to be asked is what is urgent about the loan that the lawmakers suspend their recess and hurriedly approved such loan when the allocation from Abuja to the states has risen astronomically in recent times.

“What is the interest of the Lawmakers in the loan? Why is it their habits to always approved loans for the government without consulting with their constituents.

“They should watch their actions in government, because a day will come for them to give reports of their activities to the electorate”, the group said.

The Movement has also called on the elders in the state to call the lawmakers to order so that they will not ruin the lives of their children.

“We want to appeal to the political and religious leaders in Oyo State to warn the state legislators from turning the future of their children upside down.

“To us as a movement, granting loans when the governments are collecting huge sum of money from Abuja as allocations every month is unheard of. The legislators ordinarily should be the watchdogs over the activities of the executive but our legislators from their actions have shown that they are far from doing their jobs, the group said.
