Oluyemisi Bamgbose, a professor of law at the University of Ibadan (UI), is the only female among the 31 people shortlisted for the prestigious senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title.
Hadizatu Mustapha, secretary of Legal Practitioner’s Privilege Committee (LPPC), announced the names of the successful candidates after the 133rd plenary of the committee on Thursday.
She said 106 lawyers had applied for the rank, among which two applicants were females.
She added that 83 of the lawyers applied in the advocate category and 28, under the academic category.
Also included in the list are Adeniji Kazeem and Adekola Olawoye, the attorneys-general of Lagos and Ondo states, respectively as well as Olanrewaju Fagbohun, vice-chancellor of the Lagos State University.
In 2017, 91 people were shortlisted for the prestigious rank but 30 eventually got it.
Successful candidates are expected to be sworn in as SANs on September 24.
