The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, is expected in Ile-Ife today.
According to a palace source, the revered monarch will be making a remark at a programme billed for the Oduduwa hall of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
It is, however, unsure whether the monarch will visit the Ooni just as the current occupant, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi did early last year.
The source who could not also confirm whether or not Oba Adeyemi would say ‘hello’ to Oba Ogunwusi in his palace, said that “What I think is that Kabiyesi Alaafin would be visiting the Ooni after Ramadhan; to allow them have enough time to dine and wine together, so as to tell the world that they enjoy a good relationship.”
Before Oba Ogunwusi’s appearance at the thanksgiving service commemorating Alaafin’s 45th anniversary on the throne at the Methodist Church Apaara, Oyo, the last time an Alaafin and Ooni met was in 1937, the year when Kings in Yorubaland met in Oyo town, for the first time.
The mood at the Church, that day, was that of disbelief, and then celebration as the people were agog at seeing the two royalties seated together.
Speaking on Oba Ogunwusi’s visit, Alaafin said it was the first by any Ife monarch since 1937. He said despite the fact that he did not enjoy cordial relationship with the immediate past Ife monarch, he related well with the other Yoruba obas, and commended the new Ooni’s move to reconcile all Yoruba monarchs.
