The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oorelope Local Government, Igboho, on Tuesday, kick-started its campaign ahead of the April 27, 2024 Local Government elections in Oyo State by paying homage to royal fathers and religious leaders in the council.
In what was first in the series of activities lined up by the party, the Campaign Council for the Local Government Elections headed by Hon. Ismail Aderemi, embarked on the familiarisation tour to introduce the party’s chairmanship candidate, Hon Jacob Oluwale Ogundiran, his running mate, Hon. Wasiu Babatunde and the 10 Councillorship candidates to the traditional rulers and religious leaders.
The Campaign DG, Hon. Aderemi, Deputy DG, Secretary and other Directors and members of the Campaign Council, also embarked on a tour of Wards, visiting party members in Wards 1, 2, and 6 in Obaago Quarters, during their weekly party meeting, where the chairmanship candidate and councilors for each of the three Wards were shown to party members.
This was as the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Comrade Bayo Titilola-Sodo, met with PDP leaders in the council, calling on them to all join hands for the success of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s government and the party.
Hundreds of party leaders, stakeholders and members, had during the tour, moved from one end of the Council to the other, rousing Igboho and Igbope communities to the reality of the forthcoming election in which the PDP is the party to beat.
The tour began at the palace of the Alepata of Igboholand, Oba Joel Olawuwo, who is the chairman of the Oorelope Local Government Traditional Council, before moving to the palace of the Ona Onibode of Igboho, Onigboho of Igboho, Iba Bonni of Igboho and Onigbope of Igbope.
A statement by the Oorelope Local Government PDP Campaign Council’s Director of Media and Publicity, who is also the Special Assistant on Print Media to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, Moses Alao, indicated that the party was massively welcomed by the royal fathers and the religious leaders.
While addressing the party stakeholders, the Alepata of Igboholand, Oba Olawuwo, appreciated Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, noting that since he assumed office as governor, there has been peace in the state.
Oba Olawuwo tasked the chairmanship candidate to run an inclusive government that will take care of the party elders and members and also develop the Council.
He charged the chairmanship candidate to always seek advice and carry elders along, noting that though it would be difficult to satisfy everyone, he must do his best and think about posterity and those who have occupied the seat before him and what has become of them today.
Oba Olawuwo prayed for the success of Hon. Ogundiran and all PDP candidates in the forthcoming election, while also charging party leaders to be just and equitable in the sharing of political posts after the election.
The campaign then moved to Modeke, where the Ona Onibode, Oba Abdulrasheed Jayeola, also prayed for the PDP candidates, warning the chairmanship candidate to respect the traditional institution and always carry them along in decision-making.
He called on politicians to stop creating unnecessary divisions in Igboho, stating that this tendency has been the bane of the town’s progress over the years.
Oba Jayeola called on all PDP leaders and stakeholders to work harder to bring development to Oorelope Local Government before the end of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
While in Modeke, comprising Wards 7, 8 and 9 of the Council, the tour made stops at the homes of the Chief Imam Mudathir Awaal Oloola and the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oorelope Local Government and presiding Pastor of Zion Baptist Church, Revd Remi Adelakun, who both prayed for the success of the party at the polls.
The tour also visited Chief Imam Ismail Olanrewaju Koodi and the Chief Imam of the Ansar Ud Deen, Imam Jamiu Keulere Alao, where they received the advice and blessings of the clerics.
The campaign tour also reached the palaces of the Onigboho of Igboho, the Iba Bonni, and Onigbope of Igbope, who all admonished the chairmanship candidate to be fair and god-fearing when he is elected into office, while the also prayed for the PDP’s success at the polls.
Speaking shortly after the tour, the PDP Chairmanship Candidate, Hon. Ogundiran, appreciated all the leaders, stakeholders and members of the Campaign Council for taking out time to work for the party.
The campaign tour had in attendance the Oyo State PDP Vice Chairman and Oyo North Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Yinusa Adekunle Yusuff; former Oyo North Senatorial Chairman, Alhaji Yakubu Oladoja; former Member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman Balogun; Oorelope LG PDP chairman; Alhaji Azeez Adeoti; PDP chieftain, Mr. Muritala Adeladan; Special Assistant to Gov Makinde on Irepo Federal Constituency, Alhaji Sarafadeen Yusuff and Special Assistant on Print Media to Gov Makinde, Moses Alao, among others.
