The Alepata of Igboho, Oba Joel Olasorogan Olawuwo and the chairman, Ifelodun Omo Igboho, Mr. Aderoju Azeez have hailed the Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde over the handing over of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH) to Oyo state.
Recall that the National University Commission (NUC) recently handed over the owner of the institution to the Oyo state government while its College of Health Sciences, which is located in Osogbo, is ceded to Osun state.
Many notable personalities have called for the renaming of the institution to Ladoke Akintola University (LAU), Ogbomoso and decentralise the campus to enable it accomodate more courses and widen its coast for the development of the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the Alepata who is the Permanent Chairman of Oorelope local government traditional council and Mr Azeez, they urged the Governor to fulfill the promise of locating the Faculty of Agriculture in the local government by the past government.
The statement added that the government of Oyo state had one time promised to locate the Faculty of Agriculture of LAUTECH in Oorelope local government in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo state after the full ownership status of the institution by the government.
According to the release, the local government and Igboho town is ready to receive and work with the government to kick start the take off of the Faculty in the area.
It added that lands and other necessary things for the take off which were required from the local government has been in existence since the promise has been made.
It reads in part: “On behalf of the people of Igboho town in Oorelope local government, we want to commend the Oyo state government under the leadership of His excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde over the handing over of the ownership status of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso to Oyo state.
“While hailing the Osun state government for the spirit of sportsmanship, we want to state that It’s indeed the best option to put an end to numerous crisis facing the institution. We hope and pray the glory of the institution will be restored as recently said by Engineer Seyi Makinde in no time.
“We will like to use this opportunity to remind the Oyo state government of one of its promises for Oorelope local government. That is the promise of locating the Faculty of Agriculture of the institution in our local government during the decentralisation of its campus across the state.
“While assuring our support to it, we want to state it the land and other things needed for the takeoff of the Faculty in Oorelope local government is still intact as requested. We want to urge our governor, His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde to kinldly fulfill this promise as the sons and daughters of Igboho will be grateful.”
