The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency at the 2023 general elections, Lanre Sarumi, through his foundation, has donated an ultra-modern conveniences to the Faculty of Environmental Studies, the Polytechnic of Ibadan, Ibadan.
Speaking while handing over the facility to the faculty, Sarumi stated that the project was raised out of the desire to essentially meet the needs of the students of the faculty.
His words: “We didn’t do this project because we can afford to do it. We are doing it so that we can essentially meet the needs of the people. We got the approval of this project about a year ago, when a student leader came to us and explained the circumstances and challenges they face because there is no toilet facility at this place.
“She told us the issues of snake biting, molestation and situations where female students will need to find someone to accompany them to the bush before they could excrete themselves. Hence, we are motivated to do this and solve a problem.”
Speaking on behalf of the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner Of Environment, Hon Abiodun Oni commended the Foundation and its founder.
He said: “This is a welcome development. It’s a very impressive and laudable project. Let’s not take the fact that he is a politician, he is doing it out of the desire to help the students out of this circumstance they found themselves.”
“It was also part of the Seyi Makinde’s administration to put an end to open defection in the society. I’m also sure that he will do more in the future”
Receiving the facility on the behalf of the Rector, Prof. Kazeem A. Adebiyi, the Dean Environment Studies, Mrs Elegbede appreciated Hon. Sarumi for the kind gestures. She appealed to the government to do more for the Polytechnic Ibadan
Also speaking at the event, the Registrar of the institution, Mrs Theresa Fawale also appreciated Hon. Sarumi for yielding to the call of the students who were really in need of the toilet facility. She encouraged him to continue to do more for the people of the society.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the former president of the faculty, Anyansi Glory Favour appreciated the donor of the facility for yielding to their call when they reached out to him. She encouraged the students to make use of the toilet facility properly.
Present at the commissioning includes the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Abdulrahman Abduraheem, who was represented by the Director Of Continous Education, Mr Adewale and others.
