The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged Governor Seyi Makinde to fasttrack the payment of compensation to duly qualified owners’ of lands that were acquired by the past administration.
The joint committee on lands, housing and survey and human rights and Democratic governance that investigated unlawful acquisition of lands belonging to individuals and families noted that most lands acquired by former Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration for future developmental purposes were still lying fallow after years of acquisition.
Presenting the report of the committee at the Tuesday’s plenary in Ibadan, Hon. Adebayo Babajide representing Ibadan North Constituency II and Chairman House Committee on Human Rights and Democratic Governance, stated that the petitions received from various quarters of the State made meeting of the committee with ministry of lands and the surveyor-general of Oyo State unavoidable.
According to him, it was founded that the enumeration of a landed property of Odekunle Family at Olorisa Oko, Akinyele Local Government had reached 50 per cent stage of completion, and compensation due to the petitioners, if duely qualified will be paid in due course.
He said, “We are calling on the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban in collaboration with the Office of the Surveyor-General to collaborate to ensure due compensation payment, and the conversion of such lands to the official purpose for which they were acquired for the benefit of the people.
“The Dynamic Club Agbowo U.I Ibadan too should also approach the Ministry of Lands to claim their compensation.”
In his words, the Speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin charged the joint committee to investment other land transactions that were allegedly acquired for official use by past administration in the State between June, 2015 and May, 2019 and other related matters.
“This committee is in the interest of the people and we are here to serve. Though, we want genuine development for our State, but the people should not be displeased in this pursuit,” he added.
