Yinka Odumakin, a human rights activist who was spokesman of Afenifere, Pan-Yoruba sociocultural group and founder of Petals FM Ibadan, is dead.
According to family source, he died from COVID-19 complications on Saturday Morning.
In 2015, the Odumakins inaugurated Petals 102.3FM in Ibadan, Oyo State, with a pledge that the radio station will be objective and fair to all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation.
The late Yinka Odumakin had said the station was on a mission “and this enterprise is a pledge to fairness with an oath to put the people first”.
Odumakin played a key role in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) that fought the regime of General Sani Abacha after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election.
He was also one of the spokespersons of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF), the body representing ethnic nationalities in the South-West, South-South, South-East and the Middle Belt.
Odumakin, who was married to another activist, Dr. Joe Odumakin, has been one of the strongest critics of the present government.
