The General Manager of a radio station, JAMZ 100.1FM, Ibadan, Oyo State, Mr Tony Awobode, who accused the Eleyele Divisional Police Officer of assault, has said the matter has been settled.
Awobode, aka Don T, as well as the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Oyo State, Mr Ademola Babalola, confirmed the development to one of our correspondents on Thursday.
The general manager had narrated how the DPO allegedly slapped and rained punches on his face after the clutch of his power bike touched the side mirror of the police officer’s car.
He claimed that though there was no scratch on the car, he was thoroughly beaten and taken to the police station at Iyaganku, where he got to know that the officer was the DPO of the Eleyele Police Station.
Awobode, on Thursday, told PUNCH Metro that the leadership of the police in the state intervened and “settled the matter amicably.”
The NUJ chairman also said the matter had been resolved.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, also confirmed the resolution of the dispute.
He said, “The DPO and the GM came to terms that they were working towards the same goal; the media are part of the police and the police are part of the media, so they settled between each other.”
