In a significant milestone, Iwajowa Local Government has flagged off the construction of an ultra-modern abattoir in Iganna, marking the realization of a 30-year-old dream.
The facility was flagged off on Friday, March 21, 2025, by Hon. Muritala Abiodun Oyewumi, Chairman of Iwajowa Local Government, in the presence of esteemed stakeholders.
The new abattoir aims to address the menace of unwholesome meat supply and improve the capacity of stakeholders in the meat processing business.
Hon. Oyewumi emphasized that the construction of the abattoir is a response to the administration’s resolution to curb the supply of meat slaughtered in unhygienic environments.
The facility’s launch was attended by notable figures, including His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Azeez Oyemonla, Sabiganna of Iganna, and the Chairman, Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs.
The representative of butchers, Alhaji Rafiu Daud, commended the government’s resolve to undertake this project.
In his remarks, Hon. Oyewumi promised to construct a motorized borehole to ease the operations of the abattoir.
The project has been hailed as a significant step towards improving the lives of residents in Iwajowa Local Government.
