The All Progressives Congress(APC) in Oyo State has criticised the Engr. Seyi Makinde-led government hosting the South West People’s Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Ibadan amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
APC in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Dr AbdulAzeez Olatunde, and made available to insideoyo.com on Thursday said it barbaric, clueless of the state government to organise a political rally in Ibadan at the peak of “global street emptiness where strategic and important meetings are held on conference telephone calls.”
According to APC: “When Countries, States and Communities globally were locked down in an unprecedented ongoing efforts at eradicating and preventing continuous spread of contagious COVID-19 or coronavirus which no known cure or vaccine is yet to be discovered, is it not amusing, barbaric, clueless and senseless of the Government of Oyo State under the leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde to organise a needless political jamboree in Ibadan. With PDP organising political jamboree on Wednesday 18th March 2020 at Mapo Hill, Ibadan with thousands of rented crowds, which imply that the lives of the people of Oyo State is of No value to the government of Engr. Seyi Makinde.”

Olatunde stated that with “a clueless gang of PDP people, a musician could breeze into Nigeria to play for their jamboree less than 48 hours after arriving from UK, one of the 13 countries under Nigeria’s sanction for the COVID-19, without being tested or quarantined , thereby toying with the lives of the innocent people of Oyo State.”
The statement said in order for the populace to appreciate the gravity of maladministration going on in Oyo State under the Makinde-led government, a positive COVID-19 patient that was found to have been in Oyo State for two weeks was not discovered or isolated but was only discovered in another state.
“Furthermore , this COVID-19 pandemic is no respecter of any Person or even status, if President of Ghana, H. E, Nana Akufo Addo could be confirmed to have tested positive to the Pandemic.
“Also found to have tested positive renowned football star, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Switzerland Football President, Dominic Blanc, Arsenal of London Coach, Mikel Arteta, The wife of the Prime Minister of Italy to mention just a few.
“Finally,bit of local and International events that have suffered outright cancellation or postponement because of the ongoing pandemic would be listed for the populace to appreciate our concern.
“NYSC Orientation Camp which ought to hold across all the 36 states and FCT in Nigeria from Sunday 15th March 2020 for 3 weeks was cancelled on Monday 16th March 2020.
“Nigeria National Sports Festival which ought to start on Sunday 22nd March 2020 suffered indefinite postponement
“Nigeria Football Federation shut down all Football activities indefinitely from Wednesday night of 18th March 2020
“Confederation of Africa Football postponed CHAN 2020 which suppose to be held from 5th to 24th of April 2020
“European Football Union postponed Euro 2020 to next year, 2021.
“So Also South American Continent postponed its Copa America Football Competition which ought to hold in June 2020 to June 2021.
“French open, Roland Garos which would ought to hold between 24th May to 7th June was postponed to September 2020.
“Finally if states like Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger,Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna to mention just a few are giving their School 30 days break because of COVID-19 Pandemic, appreciating that prevention is currently the only solution, now put side by side to PDP led Government in Oyo State calling people out in thousands, where is the concern and care for the health of the innocent people of Oyo State in their actions?. We can only pray to Almighty God to come to the aid of Oyo State people from this clueless PDP government,” Olatunde said.
