The Speaker Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has called on youth entrepreneurs to explore and invest in areas where there are deficiencies in the nation’s economy.
Ogundoyin said this on Wednesday, while addressing members of National Youths Service Corps in Ibadan during their annual symposium tagged ‘Sabiticate beyond certificate’.
According to Ogundoyin, the youths should take advantage of the areas where the country is lacking so as to take over the market and eventually dominate.
He said, “As start ups, youths need to examining the nation’s economy and business environment, then invest in areas where we are lacking, so as to experience less competition and have a big chance to strive and dominate in a short while.
“When I started agriculture alongside my partner- Sola Ladoja, we decided to invest in crops that are mostly imported and that helped us to fill a vacuum of becoming one of the few local growers of these crops and subsequently supplier to customers.
“Joining a saturated market like planting cassavas and grains is a recipe for high competition, which will make it difficult for a small scale to strive among the existing market giants and possibly lead to failure and frustration.
“I want the youths to take note of this and follow their passion. I believe absolute passion powers everything.”
While sharing his reason for venturing into politics, Ogundoyin explained that his political career is built on his interest to reach out and assist more people through public service.
“While I was on the farm, I employed people from my constituency and this gave me the opportunity to relate with them better and know their challenges as individuals and communities.
“I did the little I could to assist them as charity acts, but I realised more can be done through my contribution to sound policies formation if I join politics and represent my people in government,” he added.
