The lawmaker representing Ibadan North constituency II at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebayo Babajide has called on the Oyo government to include the adoption of local vigilantes into its security plans.
Babajide said this while addressing newsmen after the Wednesday plenary, stating that engaging local vigilantes to compliment security agencies in Oyo State will improve safety of lives and properties.
He said, “Kidnapping for either ransoms or rituals is gradually becoming a common activity across Oyo State.
“Our people in the rural areas are no longer safe both in their farms or markets paths. The urban residents cannot sleep with their eyes close or travel the highways and other roads at their convenient.
“These are call for concern, and as a lawmaker representing the interest of my people, I know security agents are inadequate across the country, that is why we need local vigilantes to compliment and fill the vacuums.
“We want the government to adopt them, support their activities light ammunitions, funds and every other thing necessary.
“It is running in our neighbouring state and we can adopt it here too.”
